Tonight, ABC news showed Southern Iraqi's receiving aid from the U.S and Britan (food was being handed out by the Red Cresent society and British Troops). There was a near riot and the people were chanting "we give our life to Saddam! We give our life to Saddam!" while they took the American and British AID.

So much for winning's hearts and minds. Really, we probably should declare victory and just go home.

What is wrong you people? I just post pic a of some Iaqi kids getting some food and clean water and I get Satan's racist hatred towards me and Watermelon implying there's something wrong with helping out some starving kids.

I truly hope these are just stupid, cowardly internet alter-egos.

I'm not implying anything. I'm relating what I saw.

With your post, you are suggesting that we are winning hearts and minds. That the Iraqi's are throwing flowers at our feet, and welcoming us with open arms. So far they aren't to any large degree, and I've seen evidence that suggests they may not welcome us at all.

I can't help it that you and many others bought into the propaganda machine, but hey the truth is sometimes tough to swallow. Especially after you've been brain washed by the Right's massive propaganda machine. Get over it. Turn off Limbaugh and Fox and listen to a wide variety of other sources before forming an opinion. It’s the only way to get to some semblance of the actual truth. Open you eyes for God’s sake.

That's all folks.

Well, do you have ANY evidence to back up the other side other than what's swimming around in your head?

I didn't imply anything. I just thought it was a good photograph.
I suppose you belive that they should starve because they don't share our political views?

Or here's your alternative under Saddam's regime:

You are fully in support of this right? If you are opposed to removing the regime you have to be.

I've said many times I am for this action, The Iraqis need to be free of Saddam. But destroying Baghdad in order to save it won't work. I don't trust the Bush Administration to do it right. I don't think they had a clue what they were getting us into.

Mike Von Fremd , Safwan, Iraq
9 a.m. ET U.S; 5 p.m. Iraq (approximately)

We have just crossed into Iraq with five trucks carrying humanitarian aid and what I'm watching is very disturbing. They are throwing boxes out of the back of these trucks and Iraqis are desperately fighting amongst each other to get the humanitarian supplies. But as the trucks arrived, they were chanting that they want to be martyrs for Saddam Hussein — saying with their blood, their tears, and with their lives, they will die for Saddam Hussein.

Like I said, when your world view is dashed before you eyes it can be painful, but you're young and strong, I'm sure you will adjust.

Well I'm not sure what "Nakazaki" is but you're right about Hiroshima. What's your point? Are you bragging?

Melon,

What's your point? Do you think it's wrong to offer help to those who are in need of it? Obviously SOME are happily accepting it. I just don't understand what you think is so wrong about that?

I find it almost inhuman that a person can sit in a comfy air-conditioned room, well-fed, and poke fun at helping out some starving people. Even if it just was the samll group in the photo.

Alright, let me be serious; I tend to act up sometimes.

Of course, I have no problem with giving aid to those in need--that is what America should be about.

All I'm saying is the perception that this was going to be easy and that we would be welcomed with open arms was overstated. I think the events of the last week prove that.

As Americans we need to understand that is action may very well be hard and bloody, and thanks from the Iraqi's may be a long time coming (In the end Iraq should be a better place thanks to us).

However, we've been lied to by the Bush crowd, and their lies are not making this campaign any easier.

Propaganda is a live and well and both the right and the left use it all the time. I for one don’t much trust anything coming from the U.S. Government. I don’t care which party is in power.

Mixed Blessing
Even as Aid Arrives, Iraqi Town Curses U.S. Troops

By Mike Von Fremd

S A F W A N, Iraq, March 26 — As a convoy of trucks filled with humanitarian aid pulled into the small border town of Safwan, a large group of Iraqis swarmed the trucks cheering. But this was no welcome

"With our blood we sacrifice ourselves to you Saddam Hussein!" they chanted.

British and U.S. troops tried to help the Red Crescent humanitarian workers distribute the five meals for each person who lives there. But they were quickly overwhelmed by a frenzied mob, desperate to grab the boxes filled with water, bread and cheese.

Residents stormed the trucks, climbing over each other to grab what they could and throw them out to the desperate crowds. Some were bloodied in the mayhem, which lasted for almost two hours. Others tried to hide their faces, embarrassed to be seen fighting for a handout.

But even as these residents hungrily grabbed at the humanitarian aid which they clearly needed, they also had a very strong message for the United States.

"You brought us chaos," said one mother covered in a black burqa. "People are sick and hungry."

"Woman and children have been killed," a man said. "It is all because of U.S. greed for Iraqi oil."

The scene was a stark contrast from last week, when residents of this small town just across the border from Kuwait greeted U.S. Marines with smiles and embraces, allowing allied forces to occupy the town without firing a single shot. Residents even looked on with approval as a Marine major pulled down a poster of Saddam Hussein, shouting at him, "You are a man!"

But while many of the people in this town expressed joy less than a week ago at the sight of U.S. and British troops, one man said he was not grateful to be liberated from the regime of Saddam Hussein.
